Every office has a savoury person who cannot understand why anybody would choose a chocolate bar at 10am, and a sweet person who views sea-salted popcorn as something that happens between proper snacks.
Trying to settle the argument is pointless. Stock for both.
Start close to 50/50
If you have no idea what your team prefers, an even split is the cleanest starting point. You can move it after two or three orders based on what actually disappears.
Do not worry about getting the percentage perfect. The useful question is simply whether one side of the cupboard is regularly empty while the other still looks untouched.
Savoury does not have to mean one kind of crisp
Mix textures as well as flavours. Popcorn, pretzel thins, lentil chips and crunchy corn all give you savoury variety without needing ten nearly identical packets.
Have a look through our savoury office snacks if you want to build that side of the cupboard first.
Sweet does not have to mean a sugar rush
The sweet side can include fruit and nut bars, oat bars, protein bars, chocolate-coated nuts and a few outright treats. That gives people different portion sizes and different levels of indulgence.
For something more filling, browse bars. For the treat end of the shelf, use our sweet treats collection.
Think about time of day
Morning snacking often looks different from late afternoon snacking. Someone grabbing something with a coffee at 10.30am may choose differently from the person trying to get through the last hour before the train home.
That is another reason a broad mix wins. You are not just feeding different people, you are feeding the same people in different moods.
Do not let one loud opinion run the cupboard
Office snack feedback can be wonderfully unscientific. One person saying "we need more chilli" three times is still one person.
Use actual depletion as your main signal. If the savoury tray is empty every Wednesday, that matters. If the salted caramel bars are gone within a day, that matters too.
Want us to balance it for you?
Our Let Us Choose option is designed for exactly this problem. Tell us whether your team leans sweet, savoury or somewhere in the middle and we can build from there.
And if you know exactly what everyone wants, Build your Box is the better route. No debates required, other than who ate the last packet.
Once you have the balance in mind, browse the Snack Culture office snack range and adjust the mix to your own team.
Go beyond crisps versus bars
Savoury can include nuts, olives, popped cheese, seaweed snacks and spiced poppadom or Bombay-mix formats. Sweet can stretch from fruit and rice cakes to chocolate-coated nuts and an occasional premium treat. The point is to give the office more than two predictable categories to choose from.
